MOKOPANE – A tense atmosphere prevailed at the Mokopane Magistrate Court last Friday when two suspects, believed to be hired assassins in the Gideon Fatana murder case, appeared in court for the first time. The case was postponed and the men are expected to appear again in court on today (15 May).
Charles Mogale (46) and his co-accused, Thabo Matlaila (30), could face life in jail, should they be found guilty for the alleged assassination of Gideon Fatana who was shot and killed in cold blood at his home in March. Fatana is the second victim of what is believed to be an assassination.
Fatana was killed in front of his home at the end of March and two weeks later Charles Mgidi, a driving school owner, was shot after an argument with several armed men at a garage in Mokopane. Three men have been arrested for the murder of Mgidi. They are Samuel Matjila (owner of a fleet of taxi’s and chairperson of Mahwelereng Taxi Amalgamated), Patric Sekhu and Desmond Mashabane. They have been denied bail and is currently in police custody.
Both suspects in Fatana's case remained in custody and asked to be legally assisted.
