LEPHALALE – The local Community Policing Forum (CPF) declared that it is ready to get back to the business of fighting crime in the area.
In a meeting held last Thursday CPF chairperson, Thys Eloff, the CPF announced that he was taking up his position as chairperson again after a voluntary leave of absence during the past month.
The last few months has seen the Lephalale CPF riddled with in-fighting that led to Eloff stepping down temporarily in order to address the issues.
Eloff says he is eager to resume his duties. “As a community we have to take responsibility for our safety,” he said. People should take the necessary precautions to ensure that they do not fall victim to crime.
“If you leave your front door unlocked when you go out you are being negligent,” Eloff said. According to him there is not enough manpower at the SAPS or the CPF to police negligence. “People should not invite crime in,” he said.
Eloff says the CPF’s primary focus will be to get community members involved in their activities and also to raise awareness of specific crimes in the area.
