LEPHALALE – The community of Seleka 4 held a protest march against poor service delivery on Friday.
According to business owner, Mohape Motlogeloa, they have been without water and electricity for almost four years. “It is difficult to run a business when you don’t even have water to wash yourself with,” he said.
An organisers of the march, Ernest Nkgomo, said that the march was not a political march. “We invited all the political parties to participate,” Nkgomo said. “We have spoken to the municipality on several occasions but it seems like they are ignoring us.”
According to Nkgomo, the municipality erected water tanks in Seleka but instead of supplying them with 10 000 litres at a time they are only giving them 1 000 litres.
“If we need water we have to buy it from people on the street,” Nkgomo said.
The march started at Chris Hani Street and the people walked to the municipality where they handed over a memorandum to Mayor Jack Maeko (photo top right).
