LEPHALALE - A man was killed in an alleged shootout with a home owner in the early hours of Wednesday morning. The man, an alleged robber, apparently broke the back door of a house in Waterkloof street to gain entry to the house.
Warrant Officer Frans Mokoena of the Lephalale police says two suspects gained entry into a house in Nicolette street where they allegedly robbed an elderly woman of her handbag and safe keys.
The suspects then proceeded to break into the house in Waterkloof street. The owner of the house heard noises and went to investigate. The police say that a shootout took place between the owner and the two suspects.
Upon investigation, the body of an African male was later found near the house.
Community Policing Forum chairman, Thys Eloff, asks residents to be vigilant. “We’ve had two incidents in the same area where the suspects gained entry into houses that were equipped with burglar bars and alarm systems,” he said. “Residents must ensure that they take all the necessary precautions to ensure the safety of themselves and their loved ones.”
Access is available to the CPF duty room and its patrollers in an emergency.
