MARAPONG - Lephalale Mayor Jack Maeko launched a much-needed water enhancement project in Marapong last Tuesday.
He said that the purpose of the project is to increase the existing water-generating capacity in the township. Four tank trucks will be supplying water in informal parts of Marapong and Mamojela Park. There will be 22 trucks with 10 000 litre tanks in the informal settlements every day from 08:00am.
“We have seen the existing water supply capacity is at a low level, so we wanted to increase it because there is a water is a basic need in the community,” Maeko said, adding that there is a water shortage caused by illegal connections and that the municipality must account for all the water used.
“The solution is not to cut off illegal connections but to provide the community of Marapong with water from tanks every day; and if this method is effective they will disconnect all the illegal connections.”
Maeko added that the municipality has also appointed a contractor at Mohlasedi and Ga-Monyeki villages to start with the process of installing electricity at the villages.
