LEPHALALE – The Lephalale municipality has warned residents about making use of informal car wash operators in Onverwacht. People who make use of these services could have their vehicles impounded.
In a press release, the Lephalale municipality urged motorists to refrain from using car wash services in areas where street
trading is prohibited.
The municipal by-law stipulates that street trading in prohibited areas, can lead to a fine of R 1000 for the unlicensed street trader/car washer.
The public should take note that the municipal bylaw provides for law enforcement officers to remove and impound property which they find at a place where street trading is prohibited.
Motorists who park their vehicles in a prohibited area to be washed run the risk of having their cars impounded.
Examples of such areas are the parking lot adjacent to the Onverwacht Business Centre. The municipality put up signs at the parking lot earlier to indicate that trading and more specifically car wash operators are not allowed in the area.
The same applies to the Shoprite Bus rank next to Mica where cars are washed despite signs indicating that the rank is for busses only.
