MOKOPANE – A 24-year-old gang rape victim is satisfied after the Mokopane regional court sentenced her three rapists from Mahwelereng to life in prison last week Thursday. She initially told police their term in prison should be harsh after what they have done to her last year.
The victim said in her statement to the police that she was drugged and dragged into the bushes where she was raped. She was also stabbed with a knife by one of the suspects. The incident took place in Mosesetjane.
Tonic Kekana (21), Frans Mashoalhla (22) and Derrick Makhafola (19) was charged with rape and sentenced by magistrate Gerhard Pretorius.
The case was successfully investigated by constable Mogale of FCS unit in Mahwelereng after the three were linked to the incident through DNA tests. Besides a life sentence, the 21-year-old Kekana was sentenced an additional 10 years in jail for raping another victim, aged 18 in 2012. Constable Mogale was praised for another successful investigation.
