LEPHALALE – Another nine people were arrested for the riots that took place in Marapong on 7 September. These arrests are in addition to the 14 individuals taken into custody following the riots.
An estimated R55 million in damages was caused during the protest which saw 22 of Lowveld Bus Service's busses were torched while Marapong municipal office and the satellite police station were burned down. Some shops, shacks and the Marapong library were also vandalised.
Sello Moatshe, Tshekiso Motswadira, John Tarea, Tshepo Sekholoane, Tsholofelo Moholo, Unaete Kandorozu, Piet Thobane, Simon Serumula and Khomotjo Malope were arrested by the police on Friday morning in Marapong.
The case was postponed to 30 November for a formal bail application.
