WATERBERG – Exploration and development company, Ironveld plc, has announced that it has focused its progress towards the construction of a 15MW smelter project about 80km north of Mokopane.
The smelter is part of its VTM project (vanadiferious, titaniforus magnetite).
Ironveld hopes to start with the construction of the smelter at the project, as well as the production of high-purity iron, vanadium and titanium slag by-products, in 2016 already.
The aim is to use the 15MW DC furnace to beneficiate the ore.
The 15MW DC furnace will be situated on the farm Altona in the Mogalakwena Municipality, a property to be leased (the other farms fall respectively Capricorn District municipality and the Waterberg district municipality).
The company holds rights to the minerals covering a group of seven adjacent farms, measuring an area of 165km2 and it intends to mine the VTM mineral resource.
The JORC-compliant mineral resource is estimated at 80Mt (VTM) containing 32Mt of iron (Fe), 700 000t of vanadium and 9Mt of titanium.
