River claims life of young boy (13)

SEKGAGAPENG - A 13-year-old boy drowned in the Mogalakwena River in Sekgagapeng on Wednesday afternoon after the canoe he was in capsized.
According to Mahwelereng police spokesperson, const. Sello Leso, Themba Kabelo Kekana was with his two friends shortly before the drowning.
His friends told police that he went to his grandmother’s house where he changed into shorts. They then went to the river where Kekana got into the river on a canoe. He ignored the pleas of his friends who implored him to return to the safety of the bank.
Prince Dube, a member of the community later pulled the child’s lifeless body from the river.  
Jane Kekana is the mother to the victim.
While reporting the incident to Northern News on Wednesday, the police were still awaiting the rescue team who at the time were at another scene elsewhere in the Province.
