As we speed towards the end of 2015, the year in which we celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Freedom Charter, we reflect on the many challenges, but also great successes achieved.
The highlights that especially stand out in our minds are the success stories of services delivered and projects completed. Among those we count the clean audit and several awards received by the Municipality. We remember the opening of the first gym at the rural villages; renovation to the Thabo Mbeki community hall; a number of asphalt surfaced access roads in our villages and the world-class artificial lawn at Thabo Mbeki stadium, to name only a few.
Lephalale Local Municipality is committed to building a better future for all. It is our aim to continually improve on service delivery and rural development. Our service delivery mandate is informed by our vision of “building a vibrant city to become the energy hub of Africa”, the Freedom Charter; as well as the Nine-Point Plan which President Jacob Zuma announced during the State of the Nation Address this year.
We know that improving living conditions for all is a collective effort and we are extremely grateful for all the stakeholders who had a hand in bettering infrastructure to ensure that there is enough capacity for Lephalale to grow into the first democratic city in South Africa.
As we enter into this holiday season, it is important to also remember those who are less fortunate. This season, let us all reach out a little further to those around us, as this is a time when we can show gratitude for our own blessings by giving to others. I believe sharing with others, especially those in need, best represents the miracles of this season.
For those of you, who will be travelling over the holidays, drive safely always keeping in mind the safety of your loved ones and other road users. Arrive Alive! Remember Speed Kills and Don’t Drink and Drive. As we enjoy the festive season please remember the ABC – Abstain, Be Faithfull or Condomise.
Next year is the year of the elections and I appeal to all youth who are 16 years and older to apply for their ID’s at Home Affairs and to register with the IEC.
On behalf of myself; the Mayoral Committee; Councillors; the municipal manager, Mrs. E M Tukakgomo and officials, I wish all who call Lephalale home a most wonderful and blessed Christmas. By celebrating with one another the many blessings God has given us, we can help make this season shine bright.
Best wishes,
Cllr Moloko Jack Maeko, Mayor of Lephalale
