LEPHALALE – An accident during the early hours of Tuesday morning claimed the lives of six people, one of which was a four year old child.
According to warrant officer Frans Mokoena of the Lephalale police a Toyota bakkie carrying 19 people swerved to avoid hitting two ant eaters on the Vaalwater road, 17 km outside Lephalale, when the vehicle overturned. Six of the occupants died during the accident and 13 others obtained serious injuries and were transported to Lephalale hospital.
The severely overloaded vehicle was allegedly on its way from Zimbabwe to Johannesburg when the accident occurred. A case of culpable homicide is being investigated by the police.
