MOGALAKWENA - Democratic Alliance (DA) members of Parliament; Beyers Smit and Desiree van der Walt donated bottled water to Kolobe Ramasobana High School and Bokwidi Primary School in Bokwidi Village in Mogalakwena on Tuesday.
This was during a school readiness oversight visit. This village, according to the DA’s press release, is one of many villages in Mogalakwena plagued by water shortages and these schools are at the far end of the village, thus last to receive water supplied by the reservoir. “Residents here hardly ever get any water as the water supplied is not sufficient for the existing households,” said Smit.
During the DA’s visit, the learners from Kolobe Ramasobana High School were sent home to eat lunch as the school could not cook for them in line with the school nutrition programme due to a lack of water .
The DA will engage the MEC for basic education and the department for urgent intervention in this regard, as well as the Mogalakwena Local Municipality to supply the school with water regularly,” the DA concluded.
