MOKOPANE - The police is calling on anyone who might have information about a Honda CBR that was stolen in Mokopane through an internet scam last week Friday.
A high school boy (17) lost his motorbike in a bogus transaction after a 25-year-old man showed interest in it after seeing an ad on the OLX website.
After advertising his motorbike on the internet to sell it, the teenager telephonically communicated with an interested buyer and agreed to meet at Eager Motors in town on Friday.
The buyer arrived at the filling station with a backpack on his back. After inspecting the bike, he asked to test drive the motorbike and the teenager agreed. The buyer asked the teenager to watch over his backpack and made him believe that it contained money.
The suspect, who is known to the police and Northern News, never returned with the motorcycle. He also switched off his phone.
A case of theft was opened at the Mokopane police station. Anyone with information about the whereabouts of the suspect is urged to contact warrant officer Nkwana at 079 273 5737. The suspect is believed to be in Lebowakgomo.
