LEPHALALE – During a community policing forum (CPF) meeting last Thursday residents were warned that housebreaking incidents in the suburbs are on the increase.
Gompou street, Patrys street and the flats in the Church street area were named as areas being targeted.
“Property crimes have increased by 11,9% compared to last year this time while contact related crimes like malicious
damage to property have increased with 11%,” sergeant Precious Munyai of the
Lephalale police told the attendees of the meeting.
All other crimes showed a decrease of 17% while assaults and other contact crimes decreased with a commendable 63%.
“We are seeing an increase in shoplifting incidents in the mall and are appealing to the municipality to assist with cleaning up empty stands which criminals are using as hide outs,” Munyai said.
