SELEKA – The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) in Lephalale claim that some of its members were assaulted as they were preparing for the IEC voter’s registration weekend last week. The party also claims that its posters were deliberately damaged.
“We rented a vehicle to assist in transporting campaign posters when a well-known member of the ANC confronted the driver, physically assaulted him and took his vehicle’s keys,” Sello Moselane, an EFF communication official in Seleka, wrote in a statement to the press.
Moselane claims that he was about 800m away from where the incident took place. “I walked in their direction but the man got into his vehicle and drove a short distance away where he assaulted another EFF member, Mapayapaya Griffiths, and tore the posters that he was busy fastening.”
Moselane claims that the man left his vehicle and ran away after he (Moselane) defended himself against an assault after trying to intervene. “The suspect and his brother returned about ten minutes later and I
decided to leave with the other EFF members to avoid confrontation,” Moselane said.
A case of malicious damage to property and assault was opened at the Witpoort
police station but no one has been arrested.
