SHONGOANE – An 11-year-old boy died after he was allegedly bitten by a snake while swimming with his friends in the Palala river on Sunday.
According to captain Gaborekwe Ditsela of Villa Nora police a local cattle owner saw a group of boys running away and was told that their friend was dragged into the water by a snake.
The man attempted to rescue the boy but became
nervous when he saw movement in the water.
The Villa Nora police was called by frightened members of the community and when they reached the scene they found the boy’s body floating in the water.
“There were no visible injuries on the body, but we saw a white foam-like substance around the boy’s nose,” one witness claimed.
A post mortem will be done to establish the cause of death. Police urge people to stay away from isolated areas like rivers where dangers might be lurking.
