KGOBODI – In the heart of Kgobodi village rests the Lesedi Community Centre where orphaned and vulnerable children find a safe haven. The centre was given a boost when Ivanplats invested heavily in the area and assisted in upgrading not only the building, but adding a children playground and sports grounds as well.
Ivanplats is developing the Platreef mine outside Mokopane. At the Lesedi Community Centre, the mining house assisted with the development of a vegetable garden to feed the children (the excess is sold to contribute to the funding of the centre). The company also donated some JoJo tanks for water and sanitation units.
While Ivanplats sponsors weekly musical and educational classes, the Kgobodi community could really benefit from a sports programme to make full use of the netball and soccer fields.
“The plan for 2016 is to continue to put teaching aids in place, but we need the business sector to assist us,” says Mmaseleka Khaas, one of the LED project managers at Ivanplats. “The need in this community is so great that any assistance will be appreciated.”
Any businesses who would like to donate food or individuals or sport clubs who would like to find out how they can assist with this community project can phone Mmaseleka on cel: 073 518 7799.
