MAHWELERENG – Newly-elected Mahwelereng Community Policing Forum (CPF) chairperson, Lesiba Matlala, vowed to institute innovative projects to prevent crime in the Mahwelereng policing sectors.
This comes after a wave of gang violence and shootings last weekend in Extension 19.
The aim of the CPF in the prevention of crime is to ensure the safety of the community, says Matlala. “This area has a history of gang violence and the CPF aims to counteract these criminal activities.
“We are prepared to eradicate gangsterism, violence and the circulation of drugs through CPF initiatives,” he says. The first project in place is to organise a drug and alcohol abuse campaign in schools.
Lesiba says that the elected members of the CPF will work tirelessly to bring about crime prevention projects in the area. “We are ready to take comprehensive approach to deal with gang violence,” he says.
The CPF has also seen to the establishment of new sub-forums in Sekgakgapheng, Mosesetjana, Mapela, Rooivaal, Moshate and Ga-Madiba.
Lesiba says that the CPF will work closely with the police to fight crime.
“The projects we are about to establish
will enable us to work closely with the community and youth in particular,” he explained.
“I believe next year we will be progressive in preventing criminal activities."
He added that the CPF hopes to involve the youth in its projects and hopes to play an influential role in the lives of the youth to help stay away from crime.
