MOKOPANE – Caring community members gathered opposite the Mokopane Primary School earlier this month to continue with plans to create a safe environment for the children.
Plans are underway, under the leadership of Pastors Thomas and Minda Marshall from Destiny Alive, to construct a playground as part of the Adopt-a-Spot initiative.
The old swimming pool was demolished and it was decided to use the rubble to construct a large artificial rock for the children to climb on as the first step to create the playground. The concrete rock was constructed on Saturday and will be painted to look natural.
The entire block was also cleaned up, while trees were trimmed back. Ultimately, a 1.2m fence will be erected in an attempt to keep the children out of the street and a dedicated pick-up and drop-off area will be created for parents and taxi’s.
Mokopane Primary School principal Ockert Groenewald thanked Destiny Alive for their efforts.
The corner of Thabo Mbeki and Geyser has already been cleaned up and trees, including a Baobab tree, have been planted in a bid to create a landmark for the town.
Everybody is welcome to join the initiative and to donate their time to make sure that this project is a success. Old tyres, jungle gyms or even rocks and gravel will be appreciated. The next date for Adopt-a-Spot will be July 9.
