LEPHALALE – The Lephalale municipality is pleading with residents to assist in making sure that foreign objects are not flushed or dumped into the sewage system.
“The municipality has made great strides in upgrading the electricity network and is continuously replacing old infrastructure in both the water and sanitation networks. One of the biggest challenges however is the continual break down of sewage pumps. Despite the fact that new pumps are installed and maintained regularly, sewage pumps continue to break down at an alarming rate,” reads a press release issued by the municipality.
According to the municipality the sanitation division is constantly working to fix broken pumps or blocked drains.
The reason for many of the breakdowns is the high volume of foreign material in the sewage system which either block pipes of damages pumps when rotors get snared and pumps burn out.
Items of clothing, diapers, bricks, wood, hair and sanitary towels are often found in blocked systems. Please report any such activities to the municipality’s standby sewage team on 082 306 9446.
