Rising crime rate a concern

MOGALAKWENA – Police members had their hands full with serious crimes in and around Mogalakwena the past few weeks.
Armed house robbery, Chroompark: Five suspects between the ages of 26 and 34 appeared in the Mokopane court on Wednesday for an armed robbery in Chroompark. Police spokesperson sergeant Irene Masingi reports that the men allegedly broke into the house on 8 June at about 01:20 while the resident was asleep. The resident was assaulted and tied up with an electric cord while the suspects fled with R12 000, laptops, video cameras, keys of a Mercedes Benz, cellular phones, clothing, a two-way radio, a wallet containing cards, wrist watches and Samsung tablets. The suspects will appear in the Mokopane court on 1 July as they requested legal representation.
Culpable homicide: A 45-year-old was killed when she was hit by a white Toyota bakkie on the N11 at Phola Park last week Friday. The police are investigating a case of culpable homicide.
Trespasser to face court:  Thabang Nxumalo (29) has been living under the bridge in Pretorius Street close to the industrial area for some time. He was arrested last week for contravention of the environmental act. According to reports he has served a prison sentence for wrongdoing in the same area. New charges have been pressed against him. He appeared at the Mokopane magistrate court on Monday. His case was postponed to 28 June.
Carjacking: Police are investigating a carjacking incident that took place on Sunday in Mahwelereng. Police spokesperson Constable Sello Leso reports that Thomas Kedibone Lesufi was pulled from his car in front of his home and assaulted by the hijackers who drove off with his car.
Business robbery: A business in Mokopane’s industrial area was targeted by two armed robbers on Tuesday morning. The business owner was traumatised when two men pointed a firearm at him and demanded cash. They loaded a bag with an undisclosed cash amount and demanded that the owner open the safe. When he told them he did not have the keys, the robbers fled with cellular phones, a laptop, tablet and a computer. The business’ security guard was found tied up next to his bed.
Culpable homicide
The police in Mahwelereng is investigating another case of culpable homicide after a woman in her late 20’s or early 30’s, was knocked over and killed by a truck on the N11 next to Moshate on Wednesday morning at around 3:30. The police are still trying to identify the deceased.
