MOKOPANE – The very capable Blondie McGlashan will take over the reigns as president of the Potgietersrus Rotary Club for a second time for the 2016/2017 year.
McGlashan led the club as president in 2009/2010 and was inducted for 2016/2017 by past president, Barry Fagan, at the Park Hotel during a glamorous induction dinner on Saturday night.
She says she looks forward to the many projects planned for the year and emphasised that the club aims to recruit new Rotarians to serve the community. She aims to grow the club to at least 20 members by the end of 2016.
“Rotary serving humanity” is Rotary International’s theme for 2016. Blondie and her husband, past district governor (PDG) Ian McGlashan, have done just that for 34 years with the support of other members and the community.
Past president Barry Fagan has managed the club as president for the past three years and says although it is was not easy, every project he has dealt with while being the president made him proud to be a Rotarian and proud to be part of the club.
He highlighted many projects among others, the 40 wheelchairs that were given to disabled people for 2016. They have also reached out to the Abraham Kriel Children’s Home by donating 2 000 dozen eggs and supplying them with some meat. Fagan mentioned the many food parcel donations, water tank handovers and the children’s ID booklet that were initiated and handed out.
Seven new members to Potgietersrus club were also inducted and introduced. They are Marelize Grobler, Gift Mothoa, Maliti de Beer, Delene Pelzer, Louise Mentz, Adrie Trichardt and Adri Botha.
The follow projects and more lie ahead for 2016/2017; Longest Breakfast Table for Polio, scheduled for 12 November at the Crossing Mall, Rotary’s annual Valentines competition “Spoilt Rotten” and a Potjie competition in June 2017.
