MAPELA – Thab’sile Ledwaba, philanthropist, entrepreneur and author says Women’s Day is a day of global awareness  around the vital role of women in the society, economy and the future of the nation. Addressing more than 100 people outside Ga-Pila during a Women’s Day celebration on Saturday, Ledwaba said empowered women are a source of true progress.
Her courage has inspired women across the country. “Some of the bravest, most revolutionary voices about empowerment are coming from empowered women who are calling the world’s attention to social norms that prevent other women from realising their full potential,” she said.
This event was organised by the Ga-Pila VW crew to encourage women to play a significant role in the society and become productive and contribute to economic and social development. “The endeavour to making sure that women everywhere can seize their potential is about making specific changes that will set into motion these longer term outcomes,” says Ledwaba.
“When I try to imagine the future, I’m optimistic because I see women demanding information and opportunities in the face of social norms. No one's circumstances should limit their ability to be great, everybody is born with the potential of becoming whoever they want to be, even go beyond that potential,” she said.
Ledwaba has written her first book, called “Procrastination”. The book was inspired by her personal experiences and challenges. “The book is a true revelation that, procrastination if not -known, dealt with, and conquered, can have serious consequences such locking up your potential, loss of time and great opportunities, disempowering you, hindering your progress and prosperity,” she said.
Women should step out of the ordinary and lead, be fearless, be innovative, take charge of their lives, be part and contribute to a worthy network, find that extra time space to be first and unique so that procrastination cannot stop them, she said.
Ledwaba together with Ga-Pila VW Crew have established Ga-Pila Education Trust (GET). The trust pays for tuition fees, fund tertiary students on merit and offer bursaries. The Ga-Pila VW Crew are part of a car drifters group and Leroy Ngulela, event organiser and chairperson of VW Crew, says most of people think that drifters and spinners are gangsters but truly their aim is to give back to the community.
