BUSHVELD - Wednesday saw the inauguration of Andrina Matsemela as the new Mogalakwena Mayor, while Jack Maeko was elected as Lephalale's Mayor for a second term.
Matsemela takes over from Parks Sebatjane as the fifth mayor in five years for Mogalakwena. She is a resident of the area and it is believed that she stands a good chance to bring stability to the municipality after years of in fighting within the ANC as she is thought to not be aligned to any faction, said political analyst Elvis Masoga in an interview with SABC last month.
Mike Rapatsa has been appointed chief whip and Sam Mathebula as Speaker.
In Lephalale the five public representative members of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) left the council chambers when the councilors were asked to nominate a person for the position of mayor. Maeko hit back at the EFF’s councilors during his acceptance speech saying that it is unacceptable for councilors to leave the meeting when important decisions need to be made.
The new Speaker for the council in Lephalale is Reggie Molokome.
