MOKOPANE - At the Crime Prevention Forum’s (CPF) monthly meeting on Tuesday various role-players, including the Business Chamber, security companies and the police exchanged ideas to reduce crime in town.
The interested parties have also agreed on a suggestion made by the forum's chairperson Andy Goetsch to encourage a good quality service delivery by SAPS members.
One of the new matters that were discussed at the meeting was about complaints received by community members claiming that some police members are not always cooperative when dealing with certain cases.
Goetsch suggested a plan by the Mokopane Business Chamber to acknowledge police members that excel, the aim is to add an incentive that could possibly resolve the lack of poor service to the community.
A Suricat Security representative also attended the meeting and requested police visibility at certain bushes close to Rivier Street where they have their hands full trying to fight criminal activities such as prostitution and drug dealing. Goetsch complimented Suricat for their progress in combating crime at this area.
DA ward councilor Yolande Coetzee raised her concern over drug dealing at a play park in Gemsbok Street. This was also brought under the police’s attention.
A last point on the meeting’s agenda was the police’s crime overview where they highlighted the top five criminal tendencies. The first one is theft out of motor vehicles which were mostly reported in Nelson Mandela Drive and Thabo Mbeki Drive. Second on the list is common robbery that mostly occurred also in Nelson Mandela Drive and Thabo Mbeki Drive. The third criminal activity on the police’s list is Assault GBH (grievous bodily harm) in Ruiter Road, Van Riebeeck Street, Nelson Mandela Drive and in extension 19. Burglary is fourth on the list and assault is fifth.
