MOKOPANE - The Mayor Andrina Matsemela, together with the Political Management Team (PMT), have embarked on projects inspection in the Mokopane Cluster. The leadership visited the Moshate sports facility and the sewer projects in Masodi and Mokopane town.
The acting technical services manager David Malepa, project managers, consultants, contactors and the project community liaison officers were on site to explain progress and any challenges that are being expected. The visit provided an opportunity for the Mayor and councilors to play their oversight role to ensure that resources are spent for the intended purpose. The visit focused on assessing the projects in terms of meeting their targeted completion times.
Matsemela said she is happy with the progress of the two projects. “We have budgeted R39 million for Moshate sports facility which is at 30% completion stage and we are hopeful that it will be complete in June 2017. We have also budgeted R295 million for the new Mokopane waste water treatment works which is at 40% completion stage and will be complete by September 2017.
“Contractors and consultants have an obligation to ensure that projects servicing our communities are delivered on time and are of high quality. This exercise is necessary because we do not have a room for the contractors who accept to do work for the municipality knowing beforehand that they would fail,” Matsemela said. She added that if the contractor do not comply with the timelines agreed on, the municipality will not think twice to terminate the contract because community want services not excuses.
