The suspects, whose ages range between 22 and 30 years, were nabbed yesterday afternoon following an intense investigation that was necessitated by the spate of robberies that were committed in the areas of Mokopane and Mahwelereng. Upon their arrest, police also seized four firearms and a motor vehicle that is believed to be used when committing crimes. Some rounds of
ammunition, a police uniform and a number of laptops were among the items seized.
It is suspected that one of the robberties relates to the incident in which 14 laptops were stolen from Mokopane Destiny Academy two weeks ago.
The firearms include a Revolver, 9mm Norinco, PTB Schmidt Baby Brown and Carrero Astelara pump action. The suspects, all from Mahwelereng have already been linked to a business robbery and burglary of residence that were committed in August.
The Provincial commissioner, lieutenant general Nneke Ledwaba commended the team for sterling work. Ledwaba also warned other criminals that these kinds of arrests will be the order of the day for the entire period of the festive season. More arrests are expected as police investigations continue.
