MOKOPANE – The Department of Healt brought together dedicated dental professionals, healthcare providers and educators to promote the benefits of good oral health to children Mahwelereng stadium in October.
Simple crafts and experiments taught children how important good hygiene and oral care can be to ensure a beautiful smile, that’s the reason we have to motivate them to know about tooth care through fun dental activities for kids, said dentist Dr. MmushoTladi.
“To improve the oral health of children particularly in rural areas, the department is using a community outreach model to educate them (children) on good oral habits. The department has taken proactive, and preventive measures to improve the overall health of children. We visit primary schools and local clinics to connect kids to health care and dental providers,”, Tladi said.
Following the department’s statistic report in 2015, more than half children from low-income families enters pre-schools with untreated tooth decay, 22% of children under the age of 13 have never seen a dentist while one-third of adults have lost a tooth due to decay or gum disease.
