LIMPOPO – A 38-year-old Ethiopian and a 40-year-old Somalian were arrested on the N1 South between Mokopane and Polokwane when they allegedly tried to hand a member of the police’s Provincial tracing team a R13 000 bribe when he wanted to arrest them for possession of stolen goods.
According to warrant officer Frans Mokoena of the Lephalale police they received information that the truck in which the two men were travelling contained stolen and counterfeit goods. “After our members stopped the truck the driver produced a bogus looking receipt for the goods that is estimated to have a street value of about R1.2 million.”
Constable M. Makola from the Limpopo police informed the driver of the truck and the driver of a vehicle escorting the truck that he was placing them under arrest. The two men allegedly gave the policeman the R13 000 in order to evade arrest. The money was booked in as evidence and the suspected stolen property were seized by the police.
