MOKOPANE - Ivanplats is committed to develop local youth and to procure goods and services from young local entrepreneurs and therefore presented a specialised youth enterprise and supplier development programme where the company invested in the careers of young entrepreneurs earlier this year.
 The ten-month programme entailed training sessions of around three to five days per month. Ten students were selected from over 50 applications and 20 shortlisted candidates. The programme consisted of three main components:
Asset mapping – during which students identified different assets in all spheres of their lives;
Capacity building – which included financial literacy, a full basic business course (Micro MBA), branding and marketing and web design skills.
Resource linking – which included job shadowing opportunities in the different business areas, assistance with grant applications and network linking to other companies in related industries.
Of the 10 original students, seven graduated at a ceremony at Ivanplats offices on Monday. During the ceremony, all seven students were afforded an opportunity to present their business plans to a panel of judges which consisted of senior management of Ivanplats.
