The Mokopane and Mahwelereng police worked together this past weekend in a crime prevention operation dubbed 'Operation Bontsha Mohala" (or 'Lead by Example'). Fifty-five (55) suspects were arrested for various crimes.

The offences includded contravention of the road traffic act, possession of counterfeit goods, public drinking, illegal possession of fire arms, driving under the influence, possession of illegal substances and drugs and possession of stolen property and the rendering of unregistered security services.

The Limpopo police's Lt Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe says that 27 of the 55 suspects have paid admission of guilt fines and that the remaining suspects will appear in the Mokopane and Mahwelereng Magistrate's courts shortly.

"This operation was composed of all the commissioned officers from the rank of captain up to major general from all the provincial clusters and police stations throughout the Limpopo with the sole objective of leading by example to all the non-commissioned officers out there."

This initiative also follows a proactive operation by the Mokopane police last weekend where 24 suspects were arrested for various incidents such as drug trafficking, shoplifting, public drinking, illegal immigration, housebreaking and theft. Of those arrested suspects,16 paid admission of guilt fines and 8  appeared in Mokopane Magistrate.

Well done to these police members working hard to keep our residents safe!
