MOKOPANE - The two suspects arrested during Saturday's foiled cash-in-transit heist near the Choppies Shopping Centre appeared in court earlier this week. The two men face four counts of attempted murder as well as charges for unlicensed fire arms and possession of stolen property.
According to sergeant Irene Masingi of the Mokopane police the suspects have been identified as Sehlabe Lewis Nthutang (38) from Alexandra, Gauteng, and Boitumelo Daniel Aphane (31) from Mahwelereng.
Five armed suspects tried to hijack an cash-in-transit vehicle near the Choppies Shopping Centre on 1 April). Lt Col Moatshe Ngoepe says that the Joint Special Operations Units, composed of several police units, worked together to foil the cash-in-transit robbery.
He says that members of the community spotted the armed suspects and tipped off the Mokopane police. "We reacted swiftly and upon arrival, we pulled over a white Ford Ranger and then a short out ensued between the police and the suspects."
He confirmed that two suspects were killed and one seriously injured. The two suspects killed in shoot out between the suspects and police were identified as Solly Pale (34) from Mahwelereng and Jacob Jappie Ngwaile (32) from Chebebeng village in Seshego.
Police recovered a R5-rifle, two 9mm pistols and a Ford Ranger which had been hijacked in Westernburg outside Polokwane.
Limpopo Commissioner Lt Genl Nneke Ledwaba commended the police for their quick action. He warned all criminals that their days are numbered and that they should refrain from committing any criminal acts.
