Fifteen years in jail for house robbery

MOKOPANE - B.D Mashakoe (26), M. Matlaila (31), M.B. Kekana (32) and J.N. Sethosa (38) from Moletlane in Zebediela received 5 year jail sentences in the Mokopane Magistrate's court for a house robbery committed last year.

The incident refers to a house robbery on 8 June 2016 at about 01:20 in Chroompark when five suspects -two were wearing balaclavas and three were armed - poisoned a dog and then forcefolly entered a house and assaulted the owner. They tied him up with an electric cord.

They fled the scene in a Mercedes Benz and stole laptops, video cameras, two-way radios, tablets, three cellphones, shoes, clothes and R12 000 in cash.

Police arrested the men at Moletlana village on 20 June and recovered several items. The fifth suspect remains at large.

Station commander Colonel Isaac Mantjane says that he applauds contable Mmachipi Makwela who "worked with determination, passion and professionalism to ensure a safe and secure environment for all society."
