LEPHALALE - More than a hundred illegal foreign nationals were arrested last week. Lephalale police joined forces with Vetus Schola security company to make these arrests.
According to a police report, they are trying to establish a foreign fingerprinting database. This means they will get all the foreigners living in Lephalale onto the system which they hope would lead to a reduction in the number of housebreakings.
Fingerprints will be taken of those foreigners whose legal documents are not in order. These prints will be referred to the LCRC (Local Criminal Record Centre), those that could not be linked to crimes will be deported and those whose finger prints are linked to crimes will be kept in custody for prosecution.
The SAPS are working together with Home Affairs. Police warn that people who employ these foreigners without knowing that they are illegal in the country, will be charged a R1 500 fine per worker.
