For the learners by the learners...

Waterberg High School in Mokopane approached Northern News to assist with a school newspaper. H2O is the symbol for water and the learners felt they wanted something fun and fresh to depict a school with its eye on the future. With a 100% pass rate the past five years, Waterberg has established itself as a quality school with a solid academic plan in place.
In 2014, Waterberg was one of only nine schools in Limpopo boasting a 100% pass rate and, says principal, André Horn, the school has been named as one of the Top 40 schools in the province.
To add to its already impressive track-record, Waterberg learners decided to produce a school newspaper quarterly. H2Oberg News will be produced quarterly and will be sponsored by the community by way of advertising. The content will be produced by learners assisted by Northern News.
As an Eco-School, it is worthwhile noting that the newspaper will be printed on newsprint paper from responsible sources (see www.fsc.org).
The original idea for H2Oberg News came from learner Karabo Mathibela, who feels priviledged to be part of the launch team. "It is very important to be informed about the world they live in and the place they spend about seven or eight hours daily," he says. "My need for wanting something different has seen me put together a team that loves literature and journalism," he explains. "This will be the first newspaper that Waterberg High School has ever produced and we look forward to building on it."
