MOKOPANE - On Saturday 25 April, Charles and Carlo Smith, both students at Mokopane English Combined School (MECS) participated at the Kasparov Chess Foundation Orion Group Open.
The championship was organised by Chess Excellence in conjunction with Hyenas Chess Club in Braamfontein Gauteng.
Charles, also the head boy of MECS and his brother Carlo in Grade 11, were the only two Limpopo participants at the event for CHESSA registered players.
It was a five round Swiss-Draw tournament where they played 60/60 minutes timed games with notation. Both brothers had a hard but enjoyable day and performed very admirably in a tough championship.
MECS and their coach Caroline Smith are very proud of them. Well done Charles and Carlo!
