Hoërskool Ellisras (EHS) learners won R5 000 when they came second in a road safety competition held at the MJ Gateway Lodge in Polokwane on 24 September.

The five learners of EHS identified the R177 Relebogile Road in Marapong and pointed out hazards which include dense traffic during rush hour, potholes and reckless driving since the road passes through a settlement, shopping centre and a school, making it unsafe.

The team suggested solutions such as maintenance, the construction of road shoulders because the road is narrow, more road signs and to educate the community about road safety. Boitumelo Tsolo, Lerato Ditsela, Mmamote Kekana, Dikeledi Monyeki and Renate Tshelane was assisted by Stephen Ramabale, a teacher at the school, and traffic officer Mr P. Maabe who guided the team. The team was chosen to take part in the nationals in Polokwane during the October holidays.
