Learners from Mokopane Destiny Academy concluded their first term of 2018 with an adventure filled week of self discovery and personal breakthroughs when the seniors went hiking in Magoebaskloof and the Grade 5&6 group had camping weekend in the mountains on a private game farm.

For many of the learners it was their first physical encounter with nature where it was not experienced through a screen or window. They got to breathe fresh mountain air and waded through streams so clear one could drink from it.

While the juniors also participated in a light hike up the mountain, their programme focussed on games and activities that kindled an appreciation for the outdoors and team work. The seniors had to work a little harder and some tested the very limits of their physical abilities as the longest day required them to hike 18km's over technical terrain.

True to MDA character, however, some learners showed real leadership in helping their classmates carry their loads and there were always willing hands to hold onto when things got slippery. With such a dynamic group of learners it was no surprise to see some of the new hikers finishing much stronger than they started.
