Blood flows during march

What was planned as a peaceful march for better service delivery in Lephalale turned out to be a violent clash between march organisers and supporters of the Mayor of Lephalale, Jack Maeko. At least eight people were rushed to hospital on Wednesday morning when a mob of alleged Maeko supporters called the Majammogo group attacked participants of the march with pangas, stones and sticks.

Mokopane Police are investigating a case of burglary after almost R200 000 was stolen from the MBT garage in Thabo Mbeki Street in Mokopane on Monday. No arrest has been made.

Stolen weapons found in Shongoane

Lephalale and Villa Nora police officers participated in a sting operation in Shongoane last Thursday in an attempt to arrest illegal immigrants in the area. While on patrol they were informed that two Zimbab-wean nationals gave a local resident two guns for safekeeping while police raided shacks.

51 arrested over the weekend

Lephalale police officers are working hard to curb criminal activities as the holiday season looms. Altogether 51 people were arrested over the weekend for cases ranging from assault, drinking in public, theft, illegal immigration and shoplifting.

Polio gets dealt another blow

Saturday morning the Rotarians of Mokopane presented their annual long table breakfast through which the organisation collects funds for the international Rotary project to eradicate polio. This year, many individuals and businesses who couldn’t attend the breakfast decided to sponsor breakfast tickets for elderly people in town.
