Hengelaar verdrink in Doorndraaidam

Hengelaars op die oewer van Doorndraaidam moes verlede naweek toekyk hoe ‘n man van Rustenburg verdrink nadat hy van sy rubberbootjie geval het. Ooggetuies vertel hoe die man van in sy sestigs met die bootjie uitgery het om lyne in te vat. Op pad terug na die wal het hy oorboord geval en in minder as ‘n minuut was hy glo onder water. Volgens ooggetuieverslae het hy ‘n waadbroek (waders) en windjakker aangehad, maar geen reddingsbaadjie nie. Met die inval het die waadbroek vol water geword en waarskynlik verhoed dat hy boontoe kon swem. Polisieduikers is ontbied en het die man se lyk eers die volgende dag met die hulp van ‘n snuffelhond in 8m-diep water opgespoor. Sy vrou en kinders moes glo van Rustenburg af kom om sy tent, boot en ander besittings op die oewer te kom haal.

NUMSA and Kentz at loggerheads

More strike action at the Medupi power station building site was averted this week when the National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (NUMSA) and management representing Alstom and its sub-contractor, Kentz met last Friday to discuss the suspension and disciplinary hearings of more than 700 workers. Workers were reportedly suspended by Kentz for participating in an illegal strike on May 8.

Oom Willy en die wentelbaan

Ek sit en huiswerk doen op die stoep toe Oom Willy my pa kom soek. In my aardrykskundeboek is so groot prent met die aarde en die planete in hul wentelbane. Oom Willy tel die boek op en bekyk die prent met so ‘n lang arm. “Nou wat noem mens dié?” vra hy en wys met sy vinger na die sirkels wat wys hoe die planete om die son draai.

Die dag se verrigtinge begin om 09h00 by die perseel van Oberholzer Taksidermie (op Stockpoort pad net na die Marken afdraai op linkerhand). Drinkgoed en kos sal beskikbaar wees.

ANC youth - leaderless?

While the rest of South Africa celebrated Youth day on Sunday 16 June, the majority of young people supporting the ANC Youth League in Limpopo lamented the fact that they are leaderless. This follows a decision by a task team of the youth league’s National Executive Committee (NEC) to disband the ANCYL provincial executive committee (PEC) and three regional leadership structures - one of them belonging to the Waterberg Region.

Sy is ‘n oud-leerder van die Hoërskool Piet Potgieter en verteenwoordig die Suid-Afrikaanse Vroue Federasie (SAVF). Jaqueline het ‘n passie vir kinders en wil daarom graag help om geld vir die SAVF in te samel.

Prostitute stabbed and set on fire

A 36-year old woman suspected to be a prostitute was murdered and her body set on fire in a shack in Marapong in the early hours of Sunday morning. According to Lephalale police, the owner of the shack, a 25 year old male was arrested on Sunday and charged with murder. The police report states that the suspect stabbed the victim in the neck following an argument about payment for her services. The accused left the scene, but later returned to dose the body with paraffin and set it on fire. Police found the half burnt body early Sunday morning. The accused was arrested later that day. He briefly appeared in the Lephalale magistrate’s court, but was not asked to plead. The accused will appear in court again on 28 June.

Workers vandalise premises

A court interdict prohibiting more than 200 staff members of Lephalale Site Services (LSS) from entering the Eskom Marapong Housing facility was issued over the weekend after disgruntled workers vandalised the kitchen and four dining halls.

Mokopane welcomes new school

Education MEC, Dickson Masemola, unveiled Mokopane South Primary school to the community on Thursday. Parents, teachers and the school governing body joined in celebrating the official launch in extension 14.

Om fondse in te samel het die Thula Thula Babahuis op Mokopane die afgelope drie maande kaartjies verkoop waardeur twee matriekleerders geskenkpakke in ‘n gelukstrekking kon wen. Die matriekafskeid-wenners was Corli Hobbs van Hoërskool Hans Strydom en Stefan de Beer van Hoërskool Piet Potgieter.
