Close on 300 Teachers and guests at this years Limpopo Eco-Schools Award Ceremony and mini conference held at the Jack Botes Hall in Polokwane last Thursday were motivated by inspirational talks by well- known conservationist and founder of the Lapalala Wilderness School, Clive Walker. Walker spoke of his childhood experiences of nature and his eventual establishment back in the eighties of the LWS which aimed to expose young children to environmental education.

Recent workshops have been focusing on kitchen craft skills development. Hardekool Akademie leerders en hul ouers het die afgelope naweek die Majuba Feesterrein besoek tussen Volksrust en New Castle. Dit was die herdenking ter nagedagtenis van die Majuba-slagting van 27 Februarie 1881. Die eerste 500 persone wat tot bo- op Majuba koppie geklim het, het medaljes ontvang. Al die leerders van Hardekool wat deelgeneem het, het gekwalifiseer.

LEPHALALE - Violent protest action was possibly averted in Lephalale this week when construction companies withdrew an ultimatum which called for striking Medupi workers to sign a peace agreement and return to work on Wednesday or face dismissal. Northern News spoke to Numsa’s sector coordinator for Medupi, Stephen Nhlapo, who was on his way to meet with Public Enterprises minister, Malusi Gigaba, regarding the Medupi strike in Pretoria on Wednesday.

Drug dealer gets 19 years

Sello Johannes Tabudi was sentenced to 19 years imprisonment for dealing in dangerous substances in the Mokopane regional court earlier this month. Tabudi was arrested at his rented room in Mokopane on 12 January after police found packets of heroine, ecstasy tablets, two bags of dagga weighing 37kg and cocaine smoking pipes in his possession. The drugs have a street value of about R500 000. R142 613,25 cash was also seized from the suspect . Community members are requested to report any person suspected to be dealing or possessing drugs. The negative effects of drugs cannot be overemphasized and drug dealers should therefore be dealt with ruthlessly without any mercy, said Mokopane police spokesperson, Irene Masingi.

Die Valke Buurtwag is as gevolg van die toenemende misdaad in ons gemeenskap trots om ‘n belangrike skakel in die ketting te wees teen die bekamping en uitwissing van misdaad. Die samewerking tussen die Valke en die sekuriteitsinstansies, PJP, Suricat asook Strikeforce sowel as die SAPD is op ‘n uitstekende grondslag en is die manne (en vroue!) in die glimbaadjies al ‘n bekende gesig in die dorp by enige misdaad of ongevalle toneel. Die samewerking is ook verkry van ons plaaslike “Micro Lights” om gebruik te word as die oë in die lug ingeval daar van hulle dienste gebruik gemaak moet word. Die foto is ‘n spieëlbeeld van al die rolspelers in die buurtwag se poging om ons gemeenskap te beveilig.
