A man suspected of raping a woman in the early hours of Sunday morning was arrested on Monday after Molalatau Security’s Hendrik Monyeki followed his trail for seven hours in the rain.

Murder suspects arrested

Four people were arrested this week in connection with the murder of an unidentified man who's body was found in an open field in the Ellisras area late Saturday afternoon. According to Warrant Officer Frans Mokoena it is believed that the two women and two men were involved in an altercation with the victim. He was subsequently attacked with stones and left to die. The suspects will appear in the Lephalale Magistrate court on 3 December.

Two Limpopo women who sustained serious injuries on the eve of the 16 days of activism against women and children abuse now have no food on the table, after their husband was jailed for assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm. Augusto Shivambu (32), was sentenced to 12 months’ imprisonment in the Malamulele Magistrate’s Court last Wednesday, following his conviction. He savagely assaulted his two wives with a sjambok after a pair of sandals went missing. “He took offence and he said we should know [what happened to the sandals] as we are the people who are supposed to know everything at home,” one of his wifes related the incident this week. - Lin News/Limpopo Mirror

Lephalale police, the traffic department and councilors of the Lephalale municipality joined forces last Thursday in a roadblock operation on Thabo Mbeki Drive. The aim of the exercise was to seek out undocumented foreigners and those residents who employ them illegally. According to Captian Johan Grundlingh employers need to know that if they are caught they will be taken to court that same day. “Fines range from R1500 per undocumented person in your employment,” he warned. A total of 25 undocumented citizens were taken into custody on Thursday. The Mayor of Lephalale, Jack Maeko and several councilors were also at the roadblock to give police and traffic department their support.

IEC oversees student council elections

Students Representative Council elections was recently held at the IT and Computer Science Centre, Engineering and Skills Training Centre and Business Studies Centre of the Waterberg FET College. The following portfolios were filled: Chairperson, Deputy Chairperson, Secretary, Treasurer, Sports Officer, Educational Officer, Cultural Officer, and Disciplinary Officers as well as Media Officer. Each centre has 10 SRC members, resulting in total of 30 for the college SRC. The elections were free and fair as IEC (Independent Electoral Commission) was overseeing the proceedings. The newly elected 2013 SRC pledged to work hard in advancing academic excellence and students’ interests in general. In the end, they (SRC) said they are students first before they became leaders.

Jakes vertel dat hulle besig is om ‘n groot vlot te bou waarmee hulle op 24 Desember deur die strate van Onverwacht gaan beweeg om lekkergoed en koeldrank uit te deel. “Ons het reeds alle nodige toestemming ontvang en ons vlot gaan ‘n groot Kersboom en ‘n Kersvader op hê. Daar is reeds baie borge wat ingestem het om ons met die projek te help.” Die vlot sal gedurende die dag by die Bosveld Sentra en ook Spar te siene wees. Die dames van Steenbokpan VLU was onherkenbaar in hul brille en pruike tydens die tak se jaarafsluiting verlede week. Die tak het hierdie jaar geskitter en het ‘n eerste plek gedeel met Ellisras Vlu vir die Toptak van die jaar. Die Gasvrouens het ‘n smaaklike ete vir die afsluiting voorgesit en die tafel is versier met ‘n kersfees tema. Die gasspreker Mev. Marika van Zyl van KANSA het die lede ingelig oor borskanker.
