Good progress on iron ore project

The scoping study for Bushveld Minerals’ Bushveld iron-ore project in the Mokopane area is expected to be completed by the end of the first quarter of 2013, Mining Weekly reported this week. Located in the central portion of the northern limb of the Bushveld Complex, the project consists of two consolidated prospecting rights which cover four adjacent farms, about 65km west of Polokwane and 45km north-northwest of Mokopane.

Hier is van die leerlinge van Laerskool Byzonderheid in Roedtan wat onlangs vereer is vir hul harde werk op sport en akademiese gebied. Kloksgewys is: Prestige Toekennings is gemaak aan leerlinge wat Provinsiale kleure verwerf het; Beste Atlete 2012 Anchené Roux en Johnty Darvall (middel bo); en die nuwe hoofleiers vir 2013 is Jandré en Franzelle en laaste is die skool se beste rugbyspelers vir 2012.

Mikayla laat dokters skrik

Mikayla Robbertse van Lephalale, wat in Desember 2011 deur 'n spoegkobra op haar hand gepik is, het dokters en familie groot laat skrik toe haar hart tydens 'n rekonstruksie-operasie Dinsdagoggend tussen twee en drie minute lank gaan staan het. "'n Mens besef nie hoe siek haar lyfie regtig is nie, omdat sy altyd so vol lewenslus is en gesond lyk," het haar ouma Charmaine Robbertse vertel. Mikayla se lewer is deur die slanggif erg beskadig en sy het reeds 13 operasies ondergaan. Die familie het besluit om alle rekonstruksie vir eers te staak totdat haar lewer herstel het. Teen Dinsdagmiddag was die klein vegtertjie egter weer op die been en vol lewe.

Guard may have helped burglars

A security guard was arrested and appeared in the Mokopane magistrate’s court on Tuesday for his alleged involvement with a burglary at Tony’s Cash and Carry in the early hours of Monday morning. Both the Capitec and Standard Bank ATM’s in the store were cut open with angle grinders and about R100 000 in cash were stolen. Among the other items stolen were cigarettes to the value of R60 000, a laptop, a Sony Playstation and about R110 000’s cellular airtime vouchers. According to the security guard who had been on duty, six men armed with two firearms overpowered and gagged him before breaking in through the back door. Investigations into the crime scene, however, revealed his possible involvement in the burglary. Police were able to lift fingerprints on the scene.

Danksy inligting wat deur ‘n informant aan die polisie deurgegee is, is twee verdagtes Maandagoggend op heterdaad betrap toe hulle gesteelde koperdraad by ‘n skrootwerf wou verkoop. Die drade is vermoedelik op ‘n plaas net buite Lephalale van ‘n besproeingsstelsel af gesteel. Die verdagtes het eers ‘n sak met 110kg koperdraad aan die skrootwerf verkoop vir R5780 waarna die informant die polisie ingelig het dat die mans van voorneme is om later terug te keer om nog koperdraad te verkoop. Adjudant offisiere Joubert, Schutte, Mokwele en Marokane het die verdagtes ingewag en gearresteer. Hulle was in besit van sowat 180kg koper asook die kontant wat vroeër aan hulle uitbetaal is.

Police clamps down on crime

In Lephalale more than 40 arrests were made over the weekend as part of the police’s drive to curb crime in the area. Some 13 prostitutes were arrested when a fight broke out between local- and Zimbabwean prostitutes. A murder suspect was also arrested and appeared in court this week. According to Warrant Officer Frans Mokoena, it is believed that the man stabbed a suspected drug dealer in a tavern in Marapong. The man died in the Ellisras Hospital and the suspect remains in custody. It is reported that several illegal immigrants were arrested at the informal settlement behind Elite Mica on Friday

Twee Nigeriese burgers is dood toe die vliegtuig waarin hulle Vrydagaand vanaf Wonderboom lughawe in Pretoria opgestyg het tussen Mokopane en Polokwane in die Ysterberg vasgevlieg het. Reddingswerkers het Saterdag die lyke van die twee mans uit die wrakstukke gaan herwin waar die vliegtuig hoog in die berghange op ‘n boer se plaas te gronde gegaan het.

Sewage causes national stink

The Director-General (DG)of environmental affairs, Nosipho Ngcaba, last week instructed the Limpopo economic development, environment and tourism department to look into complaints by Mokopane residents over the ongoing spillage of raw sewage into the Nyl/Mogalakwena river system. Responding to residents' complaints the DG vowed to give them feedback as soon as “the matter has been concluded.”

Breakfast in the name of charity

On Saturday morning residents of Mokopane sat down for a hearty breakfast in the name of charity when they joined the local Rotary Club at their annual Long Table Against Polio at The Crossing shopping centre. The Long Table is a Rotary International initiative to support the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation in its drive to eradicate polio through world-wide immunization campaigns in developing countries.

Hulle het verlede Donderdagaand hul amptelike opening met skemerkelkies en ‘n vingerete saam met vriende en kliente in die dorp gevier. Met Heidi aan die stuur beloof hierdie besigheid om van krag tot krag te groei terwyl dit vir die dorp se inwoners ‘n goedkoop oplossing op die probleem van ewig-stygende brandstofpryse bied.

Mogalakwena councillor for Ward 31, Korny Dekker, last week visited Kindergarden pre primary school in Ext 14 where he handed out stationery, food parcels, plastic tables and chairs as well as plastic scooters to the children. “Working in this area, one is often impressed by how well-organised and disciplined these schools are despite having very little to work with.
