MOKOPANE - Tension mounts at the Mogalakwena Municipality as Police again forced open the municipality gates for a  second time in less than a month on 24 November. Bricks were thrown at the police officers trying to force open the gate. Police retaliated by shooting rubber bullets. At least one person is reported to be injured.

Driver flees after train smash

A car heading from Marapong to Onverwacht was hit by a train in the early hours of Monday morning. According to police reports the driver of the car spotted a police road block and turned his vehicle around. A truck was waiting at the railway crossing for the train to pass when the vehicle overtook the truck and collided with the passing train. The driver allegedly fled the scene before police arrived and it is not known if there were any passengers with him in the car. A case of negligent driving is being investigated.
