Toe Anel Moolman van die Kameeldoring Dierekliniek besluit het om ‘n spesiale dag ten bate van die plaaslike Dierebesker-mingsvereniging (DBV) te reël op 5 Julie, kon sy nie droom hoeveel ondersteuning sy vanuit die gemeenskap sou ontvang nie. Sonder sukkel is daar R5 800 in een middag ingesamel vir dié goeie saak.

Northern News received several photos of what is called processionary caterpillars this week. These are the caterpillars of the processionary moth and are very prevalent at the moment because of the higher than normal rainfall we had in the Bushveld.

‘n 37-jarige man, wat as 'n voorman op 'n plaas in die Steenbokpan-omgewing werk, is Saterdag gearresteer en aangekla in terme van die Limpopo omgewingsbestuurswet (LEMA) wet 7/2003 vir die onwettige besit van ‘n beskermde spesie. Volgens Adjudant offisier Frans Mokoena wil dit voorkom of die verdagte ‘n luiperd in ‘n hok ingelok het deur ‘n Nyala karkas binne in ‘n hok te plaas. Die Nyala is glo vroeër deur die luiperd doodgebyt. Wilbewaarders, Johannes Mothoni en Piet Mokiba, het op ‘n anonieme oproep gereageer en die luiperd in die verdagte se besit aangetref. Die verdagte is op R1 000 borgtog vrygelaat en het in die Lephalale landroshof verskyn Maandag. Die saak is uitgestel tot 21 Julie.

Boikarabelo mine delayed

Protech Kuthele (Pty) Limited, one of the contractors at Boikarabelo mine outside Lephalale, has applied to court to terminate its business rescue proceedings and be placed in liquidation, Resource Generation (ResGen) announced. Protech Kuthele was undertaking the earthworks for the rail link, the site infrastructure and the roads. It has removed all staff from the mine site and terminated all activities. ResGen announced that the unforeseen development is expected to delay the completion of the project by three to six months, with first coal production now estimated for the first half of 2016. “Based on the previous competitive tender process, ResGen does not expect any difficulty in appointing an alternative earthworks contractor.,” the statement added.

Members of the South African municipal workers union (Samwu) downed tools on Monday demanding a clear separation between the political and administrative structures within the Lephalale municipality. According to the regional secretary of SAMWU, Patric Aphane, there is too much political interference within the structures of the Lephalale municipality.

NUMSA strike begins at Medupi
