Mogalakwena mayor visits SPCA

The SPCA in Mokopane is broke and in desperate need of financial aid, the association’s chairperson, Marcelle Maritz told Mogalakwena mayor, Malose Mabuela when he visited the SPCA last Thursday. Mabuela, the ANC chief whip, Phuti Pila and the speaker, Melba Mabusela, visited the SPCA upon Maritz’s invite. She is hoping the municipality would release funds allocated for the SPCA sooner than the scheduled release date later this year. “Right now we have peole who haven’t been paid salaries this month and we are running out of food for the animals we care for,” she said. The SPCA no longer received funding from the national lotery and relies entirely on donations and fundraising projects for its day-to-day expenses.

Pippie word vyf!

Verjaarsdagwense het hierdie week ingestroom vir klein Pippie Kruger van Lephalale wat Maandag haar vyfde verjaarsdag gevier het. Haar ma, Anice, vertel dat dit ‘n baie spesiale dag was en dat die feesvieringe nie Maandag opgehou het nie. Dit was Woensdag 11 Junie, presies twee jaar gelede dat Pippie haar “nuwe” vel in ‘n baanbrekers veloorplan-tingsoperasie gekry het. Daar was dus baie om oor fees te vier hierdie week in die Kruger huis.

Corné de Swardt Na aanleiding van hierdie onderwerp en vier groot figure: Hitler, Oprah, Obama en Nelson Mandela waarna telkens verwys is, het Nathalie Perrier haarself as puik senior spreker bewys by die tweede ronde (semi-finaal) van die ATKV-Redenaars in Polokwane op Vrydag, 31 Mei. Wat 'n voorreg vir Laerskool Bosveld Primary om te kan kompeteer teen die room van Limpopo se spreker-oes! Die kompetisie was baie sterk en twee Graad 7-seuns het met die louere weggestap om in die finale ronde te gaan deelneem. Die opgewondenheid is egter nie verby nie... vanjaar het die Bossies ook 'n Junior spreker gehad wat deurgedring het na die semi-finale ronde, naamlik Ruan Mostert, 'n Graad 3-bulletjie wat sy rugbyspan se kaptein is! Sy onderwerp was dan ook “Skop maak maats” en hy het hom puik van sy taak gekwyt! Die Bossies is baie trots op hierdie 'Kultuur-diere' wat onderskeidelik 6de (Nathalie) en negende (Ruan) geeïndig het op die Top 10 sprekers van Limpopo! Wel gedaan Bossies.

Marelieke Ferreira, Sebastian Mostert en Charmile Strauss van Nedene van Niekerk Balletskool in Mokopane, was aangewys as van die beste ballet dansers in Limpopo tydens hul jaarlikse ballet eksamen. Marelieke het die beste danseres van Graad 1 se toekenning verwerf. Sebastian was aangewys as die beste danser in Graad 2. En Charmile was die mees belowendste danseres in Graad 3. Die Royal Academy of Dance het hierdie jaar met ‘n nuwe sillabus begin en Nedene van Niekerk Balletskool se dansers is van die heel eerste dansers in Suid-Afrika om hierdie eksamenste dans. Beyers reporting from parliament

Former Mogalakwena councillor, Beyers Smit, this week reported back from Cape Town where he has taken up his position as Member of Parliament in the First House of Parliament (The National Council of Provinces - NCOP). Smit is part of the Limpopo delegation of 10 Democratic Alliance representatives. While he is not the first resident of Mokopane to become a member of parliament, it is noteworthy that he has had to overcome dyslexia to achieve his goals.

Thumbs-up for Mogalakwena dumpsite

Northern News recently accompanied AfriForum’s Limpopo co-ordinator, Morné Mostert, on a site inspection at the municipal dumping grounds on the Zebediela road to the east of the town. Mostert noted that he was impressed with the way the dump site is managed and said it was rare for a municipality to comply with the national regulations to such a large extent.
