Lephalale drug busts

The Crime Prevention unit of the Lephalale police stopped and searched patrons of a tavern in Onverwacht on Tuesday and arrested three suspects who were in possession of illegal substances. Mandrax, dagga, Nyaope and a dangerous weapon were found on the suspects. They were arrested and had their car impounded. The suspects are all from the Eastern Cape and appeared in the Lephalale magistrate’s court on Wednesday.

Court to rule on Medupi demobilisation

A special labour court hearing was held in Lephalale this week to hear an application brought by the National Union of Metalworkers (Numsa) against Murray & Roberts and Medupi Fabrication. Numsa alleges that the companies disguised the retrenchment of hundreds of Medupi workers in September last year as demobilisations in terms of the Project Labour Agreement (PLA) and therefore failed to comply with section 189A (s189A) of the Labour Relations Act.

31 Leerders van Hardekool Akademie het verlede Vrydag aan die streekredenaarskompetisie in Modimolle deelgeneem. Al die leerders het uitstekend gevaar en die skool het drie graad wenners (goud), drie tweede plekke (silwer) en twee derde plekke (brons) behaal.
