Young people are losing their grip on reality in navigating their way through the pitfalls of everyday life due to continued challenges foisted upon them by drugs, peer pressure and health concerns. With social media only a click away due to the functionality of mobile phones and internet access, they are bombarded with information that is often negative and propagate a dark future in their understanding.

Successes for Lephalale police

Lephalale police arrested two suspects on Tuesday and impounded their vehicle on suspicion of common robbery from ATM’s in Lephalale. The suspects were found in possession of 25 bank cards from different banking institutions. The arrests were made by Constable M Rendani and Constable Given Leshilo. Constable Leshilo was also instrumental in the recovery of a vehicle that was stolen from the Medupi building site last week. According to the report the Tata bakkie and tools to the value of R102 000 were stolen from the premises. The vehicle and a generator were later found hidden in bushes on a dirt road near Wells street. Police are still searching for the five suspects who were seen running from the scene.

Mogalakwena municipal Councilors resolved that all councilors implicated in the KPMG report be removed from their positions as executive committee members during a special council meeting held last Thursday. The removed councilors are TA Mashamaite (mayor), NS Montane (technical services chairperson), M Tlhaku (special projects chairperson), LD Langa (chief whip), MA Tsebe (community services chairperson) and MR Lebelo (electrical services chairperson). NV Mashamaite resigned from his position as councillor last week and therefore relinquished his position on the executive committee.

No go for proposed Anglo power station

The final Scoping report for a proposed 600MW coal-fired power plant to be developed by Anglo American and Vedanta Zinc, just outside Lephalale, has been rejected by the Department Environmental Affairs, reports Earthlife Africa.

Die familie van Nathan Hogan, ‘n vierjarige seuntjie van Lephalale wat in Augustus verlede jaar gediagnoseer is met Neuroblastome, glo dat behandeling in die VSA moontlik sy enigste kans op oorlewing kan wees. Nathan is na twee en ‘n half maande se onsuksesvolle behandeling in Steve Biko hospitaal in Pretoria huis toe gestuur sonder enige hoop vir herstel.

Another special council meeting in less than a month was again convened at Mogalakwena Municipality last Wednesday when the council gathered to discuss the restructuring of the IDP steering committee. This follows in the wake of councillor Nkholo Mashemaite’s resignation. Mashemaite tendered his resignation after he was elected as ANC Waterberg’s regional secretary despite being implicated in allegations of breaching the municipal code of conduct for councillors at Mogalakwena.

Personeel en leerders van Laerskool Krugerpark het Maandagoggend verslae gestaan voor die verwoesting wat inbrekers gesaai het toe hulle Sondagaand by die skool se kantore ingebreek en duisende rande se toerusting gesteel het. Die booswigte het ‘n veiligheidshek oopgebuig om toegang tot die binnehof tussen die saal ek die kantore te kry. Vandaar het hulle vermoedelik een van die kantoorgebou se vensters oop geforseer en toe die kantore geplunder vir waardevolle items.
