Hard work and lots of practice paid off for six girls from the Mokopane Gymnastics Club (MGC) who was included in the Limpopo Gymnastics team this past weekend.
The Limpopo qualifier took place at Virgin Active in Polokwane and saw more than 130 girls compete for a spot at the Northzone SA Gymnastics competition in September. “While its not just about the medals, our gymnasts work hard to stay focused and perfect their routines,” says MGC women’s
artistic gymnastics coach, Marinda Marshall. “We will prepare these girls to be at their best over the next month.”
The Northzone SA’s is held yearly and sees gymnasts from Central Gauteng, East Gauteng, Vaal, Limpopo and Mpumalanga competing for top honours. It will be held on 6 and 7 September at the Matsport Centre in Kempton Park in Gauteng.
Last year, three MGC gymnasts, Lungile Mhalangu, Lesedi Mashisi and Melody Raats, was placed first in their respective age groups and levels. Lungile (level 2), Lesedi and Melody (level 3) will compete again this year as part of the newly-chosen Limpopo team, along with Chené Goosen (level 2), Jennezee Vermeulen and Miquyla Venter (level 1).
